Letting You Go

can you hear mi crashing with the waves,
as i prepare to let you go?
is the salt in my hair
from the crisp ocean air
or from the tears that endlessly flow?

can you feel my heart breaking like the waves on the shore
before i wrap you forever with wind?
or can we sit a bit longer
in the hopes i get stronger
and just cherish the way things have been?

watching you fade into the horizon
would be more than i could bear.
though it makes my soul ache
causes my body to shake,
i shall submit your release with this prayer:

as you fly to the welcoming arms of your Maker
i watch you dance over waves of foam.
go gallantly, valiantly
and boldly brave one,
toward the rejoicing sounds of home.
