the wound has healed
but the scar remains.
yet every touch
reveals the pain.
we protect it well
and wrap it tight,
keep it sealed
and out of sight.
then something rubs it,
hits it wrong…
it’s now exposed-
no longer strong.
been picked away
so now it bleeds,
forgetting the care
it often needs.
we hide away
the open wound,
in hopes again
it will heal soon.
though time may tell,
it’s yet to see,
below the scars
of you and me.
we seek another,
with whom to share
the pain and hurt
that lingers there.
that when the scab is fully healed
and just the scar remains…
will love us deeply through it all
(and) see our beauty just the same.
