time is more important, more valuable
than love.
sure, I can tell you “I love you”
but how do you know?
for when I am with you
I am unengaged,
distracted,
on my phone,
or otherwise preoccupied.
how do you know that I truly love you?
but if I spend TIME with you…
if I take moments out of my busy life and schedule
to be with you,
if I give you my undivided attention,
if I am attentive and dedicated
then you shall be assured of my love.
yes, life gets busy.
hours turn into days,
days into months
and months into years
and before we know it
time has passed
but so have the opportunities.
there are no more chances
to show those we love how much we cherish them.
each and every day,
all year long,
like sand in an hourglass
time is ephemeral,
but then our opportunity is gone
they’ve left leave this world
abruptly gone,
without warning,
without notice.
damn it! in our world of good intentions
we thought we had more time,
we thought we had tomorrow.
but now we’re faced with not only the regrets
but a room filled with people,
trying to share what that person meant to us.
yet all that remains is the grief
the remembrances of love
with nowhere to go.
this may be the season for family and friends,
gratitude, and blessings
but time does not stand still.
people make time for what is important to them.
so, i encourage you…
take time.
make time.
today.
every day,
all year long…
for time is more important than love.
